Trinidad, a streetwise mutt, finds that communicating with humans and her pedigreed neighbor is a big chunk of gristle in her life. What she lacks in pedigree she more than makes up for in pluck, nosing out the most from each day. She could help us learn how to get more from life if we could hear outside our limited range of sound waves. We can’t help our inadequate sense of smell either, but let’s face it, we’re just too busy to use our full potential.
Trinidad’s neighbor, Stanley, is private, knowledgeable and always right—except when he misunderstands what he learns from his scientist owner.
The Old One created the world— the order in which each life form came into being and how and why dogs were created to serve a purpose bigger than themselves, one very much related to humans.
This story comes straight from the dog’s mouth, showing what it might be like to have canine values and priorities and to be members of a species sometimes misunderstood or even abused—yet maintain a joyful spirit.

This beautifully written, heartfelt exploration of the inner life of a dog is touching, inspiring, and at one point nearly devastating. The entire story is told from the point of view of a dog, and encompasses a life well lived: from scavenging for scraps and experiencing human callousness, to becoming a loved and cherished part of a family of four on the west coast. The protagonist, Trinidad, makes canine friends of all sorts, learning about science and spirituality from her encounters with dogs of various backgrounds. She learns how to discern whether a human means to do her harm, or assist and protect. She has a delightful mystical connection with "Mama Dog," who appears to her when she's in a quiet and contemplative mood, or in a crisis of confidence. The reader is treated to the author's lifetime of subtle observations on character, meaning, and growth, and much of the book inspires reflection on human relationships as well as human-canine bonds. Reading this book, one will appreciate the down-to-earth wisdom and compassion for all beings, great or small. And the reader will be struck by the magnitude of the inner life of those animal companions that are often overlooked and neglected - if even just for being caught up in the busy-ness of human life. This is a celebration of little everyday moments, as much as great philosophical yearnings....an engaging and quietly uplifting read.

Something to Howl About edition by Diana Morley Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Moving, creative, compassionate, and engaging! Highly recommend!
In "Something to Howl About," we experience ourselves through the eyes of a touching insightful dog, Trinidad, and her canine friend, Stanley. Their everyday dog lives and reflections on their owners let us explore who we are. It is a story filled with rich textures of sights, smells and sounds. Be sure to have a box of tissues nearby when you read the beautiful ending.
wonderful book by a witty writer.
"Something to Howl About" was totally engaging - both the creative, fresh story line and the main character. It was funny in parts - poignant in other parts and even upsetting in still other parts. I totally "bought" the idea of Trinidad, the talking dog - and fell in love with her - following her through good times and bad. Whether you're a dog-lover or not - you'll be hooked on this well-written gem right to the end!
